LGE's Counterattack in Korean Mobile Handset Market. :: 2009/07/21 01:11
For several years, Samsung Electronics had governed the Korean mobile handset market. Samsung's mobile handset had been recognized as a unchangeable number one handset to most of Korean consumers.
However, I want to venture to say... "LGE's counterattack finally begins."
Still, quantitative statistics regarding the Korean mobile handset market shows that Samsung's mobile handsets is governing the Korean market through maintaining around 50 % market share. However, I am feeling that many young people just started to be attracted by LGE's innovative handset design. Recently, LGE launched several popular mobile handsets such as lollipop, cookie phone and arena phone. Many young people are enthusiastic on the innovative designs and user interfaces. On the other hand, Samsung maintain their classical designs.
I believe that LGE will overcome the old barrier of Samsung withing several years in the Korean mobile handset markets. Because I believe young people's enthusiasm on LGE's innovative handsets will spread out continusously.

The LG Mobile World Cup :: 2008/11/02 14:51
LG Electronics launched the LG Mobile World Cup, giving participants a chance to show off the speed and accuracy of their text messaging skills. This event began in Seoul, Korea on October 27 and will be in Brazil in late this year. In addition, this event will be expanded to 15 more countries and a winner of the world will be picked out next year.
According to market research company Gartner, text messaging is expanding at an explosive rate. This year, people will send an estimated 2.5 trillion text messages and this number is expected to surpass 5.6 trillion by 2012. For perspective, every people will send about 6.7 billion text messages per day this year.
As the popularity of text messaging has risen, phone manufacturers are trying to make mobile handsets which are friendly for sending text messages. (Recently, another Korean handset provider, Pantech made a contract with AT&T in order to provide "World's Thinnest Qwerty Keyboard" Handsets.) As I mentioned on the post, "SMS Usage Patterns of Korean People", over 40% text messages are sent using usual computer with QWERTY keyboard. It means usual people are familiar with QWERTY keypad and, if handsets provide a similar keypad, text messaging would be expanded more. 'Mini Life', a Secon Life service of Cyworld :: 2008/06/16 16:39
SK Communications is a famous online service provider that delivers NateOn and Cyworld. Cyworld is a leading internet portal based on social networking. The main service of Cyworld, 'Mini Homepage', has attracted about 25 mil korean users and is trying various services based on social networking.
'Mini Life' is a new service in Cyworld. Every uesr has a 'Mini Room' in the user's 'Mini Homepage' and the 'Mini Room' is a personalized space of simply 2D concept. 'Mini Life' provides a personalized space of 3D concept such as Second Life. Each user has a character and an empty personalized space in the initial stage and can decorate the character and the space. In addition, users can visit spaces of other users and corporate customers of Cyworld can also make their space in order to promote their products, services and brand images.
